• Where does NMCF work?
  
  NMCF has a programme of work in all 9 provinces of South Africa.

  
• Do you work in other countries?
  
  Some of our advocacy and lobbying work takes place in other Southern African countries such as Mozambique, Botswana, Malawi, Namibia and Zambia.
  We also have a schools advocacy programme in the UK which compliment the Citizenship National Curriculum.

  
• What is the relationship between NMCF South Africa and NMCF UK?
  
  NMCF in South Africa runs the programme of work which helps vulnerable children. NMCF UK is a registered charity in the UK and fundraises for the work in South Africa.

  
• Would NMCF UK make a grant to my organisation which works with children in South Africa?
  
  The terms of our charitable deed allow us to make grants to NMCF in South Africa so we are sadly unable to support other organisations.

  
• Why do you only work with children?
  
  We strongly believe that the condition of children cannot be viewed separately from the communities where they live. Most of our work is therefore about strengthing the communities where vulnerable children live so that they can be cared for long term.

  
• How is Nelson Mandela involved in your work?
  
  Mr Mandela founded the charity and takes a keen interest in its progress. He is now in retirement and a private citizen so we do not expect him to be involved in the day to day activities of NMCF.

  
• Would Mr Mandela attend an event?
  
  Unfortunately not. He is a private citizen and we do not make these requests.

  
• Would Mr Mandela sign an item for fundraising purposes?
  
  Unfortunately not. He is a private citizen and we do not make these requests.

  
• What is NMCF's relationship with The Nelson Mandela Foundation, The Mandela Rhodes Trust and 46664?
  
  Mr Mandela set up 3 legacy organisations to carry on his work; The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund, The Nelson Mandela Foundation and The Mandela Rhodes Trust.
  The Nelson Mandela Foundation is a centre of memory that provides a vital historical context for the future of Africa.
  The Mandela Rhodes Foundation offers young African scholars the oppotunity to develop exceptional leadership capacity.
  46664 is an organisation that raises funds for the legacy organisations through concerts and related activities.

  
• Can I volunteer with your projects in South Africa?
  
  NMCF is a development organisation so unfortunately this is not possible, but do please visit our volunteer section to find out the numerous ways to be involved in the UK.

  
• Where does NMCF UK get its funding from?
  
  NMCF UK is supported entirely by the voluntary contributions of individuals, foundations, corporations and non-governmnetal organisations. For more information please visit our get involved section.

  
• What is the most beneficial way to donate to NMCF UK?
  
  All donations are extremely important to help support our work. However, regular giving means NMCF UK can effectively plan ahead for sustainable and empowering long term projects making the biggest difference to the lives of children and young people in South Africa. If you are a UK tax payer please ensure you Gift Aid your donations so that NMCF UK can claim an extra 28p for every £1 you donate at no extra cost to you. • What is Gift Aid?
  
  Gift Aid is a government run scheme that allows us to reclaim the tax on your donations. As long as you are a UK tax payer NMCF UK can claim an extra 28p for every £1 you donate - making your donation go further at one extra cost to you. • How much of the money donated goes to the projects in South Africa?
  
  NMCF UK works very hard to keep our overheads to an absolute minimum, from 10-15%. However, the exact figure fluctuates each year but please download our Annual General Report for the current financial figures.
