get involved / Take the Step. Be the Change. II
A Global Citizenship Project for UK Secondary Schools
"After 90 years of life, it is time for new hands to lift the burdens.
It is in your hands now."
- Nelson Mandela at Hyde Park, London on June 2008
Join us in celebrating the spirit of Nelson Mandela's leadership by encouraging your students to 'Take the Step. Be the Change.' This project aims to enhance your students' confidence and sense of responsibility as global citizens. We intend to empower students to make a difference by becoming leaders themselves with support from the fundraising team of NMCF UK.
How your school participates:
1. Send us your registration form by 18 July 2011
2. Select 2 to 5 student leaders who will:
- Develop and implement a fundraising initiative within the school
- Raise £1,000 by 16 December 2011
- Ask as many pupils as possible at the school to write an essay answering the question: "What would I do with £1,000 to help less privileged children?"
3. Submit up to 20 essays to NMCF UK along with the funds raised
What we provide:
1. Workshop via Skype or in your school with a member of our fundraising team
2. Constant support through email and phone
3. Information pack full of fun and creative ideas aimed specifically for secondary school students PLUS all promotional materials
100% of the funds raised by your students will go to the establishment of the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital, which is the second health facility for a population of 20.8 million children in South Africa. This hospital will provide state-of-the-art specialist healthcare to all children, irrespective of their social and economic status. No child will be turned away for inability to pay.
All participating schools will be included in our e-newsletter featuring Mandela Day, which is sent out to thousands of our supporters within the UK and Europe. We will also publicise stories of interesting projects on our website. The school with the most stimulating essay will be rewarded with a visit by one of our celebrity ambassadors!
