Sport at Langley Park
plays a significant role in the life of the school. In 1999 and again
in 2002 Sport England presented the school with a "Sportsmark Gold"
Award, one of its most prestigious sporting awards. Langley Park School
for Boys is the only London School to receive this award twice in succession.
The school is well known for its sporting record. In recent years we have
produced internationals in five our major sports, and proudly have the
reputation as one of the leading hockey schools in the region.
South Africa 2004
In seeking to travel beyond Europe, and in seeking to find global competition,
the choice of South Africa seems ideal - a nation passionate about its
sport.
Very importantly, South Africa provides us with the environment to stimulate
our pupils' cultural and personal development as well as providing the
competitive challenge needed to see them grow as sportsmen. Our work with
the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund adds an important social dimension
to this project.
We intend to play a lot of hockey, starting in Durban, moving to Port
Elizabeth and finishing in Cape Town. The 20-odd matches scheduled with
be demanding but rewarding. At the same time, we hope to relax and enjoy
the variety and diversity of experiences that South Africa has to offer.
Our relationship with The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund started in 1999
through the late Andy Holmes. Our fundraising efforts have included such
events as a 30-hour hockey marathon, boot fairs, auctions, discos, sports
dinners, soccer tournaments and bag-packing at local supermarkets.
