Schools across the UK are coming up with creative ideas to fundraise money for the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund UK.
This year Sharpness Primary School in Berkeley's chosen international charity is the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund UK. The school council which consists of 14 children from year group six came up with the idea of 'Guess the sweets in a jar' competition.
Each pupil brought a packet of their favourite sweets to be used in the competition. Before and during the school day, children were asked to estimate how many sweets were in the jar. A majority of children took part, with one guess costing 50p and three guests costing £1.00. The winning pupil guessed 157 sweets in the jar, when in fact there were 164! The school raised a £34.20.
We are extremely grateful to the pupils and teachers of the school whose creativity and commitment in raising funds for NMCF UK will help to improve the life of a vulnerable South African child.
