news / Would you like to adopt us as your Charity of the Year?

1st Sep 2014

A great way to help the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund UK is to adopt us as your school's Charity of the Year, raising funds and awareness of our programmes of work creating better futures for children and young people in South Africa.

What does choosing the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund UK as Charity of the Year involve?

Choosing a Charity of the Year helps to focus the fundraising efforts of a school. Pupils can learn more about the chosen charity's goals, work and how their fundraising efforts can make a difference to the projects they are supporting. In our case students can learn more about the challenges children in South Africa face and how life is different to the UK.

Some schools, however, may choose more than one Charity of the Year in a given year, perhaps supporting an international, a national and a local charity.

How your school can make a difference?

Choosing the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund UK as your Charity of the Year means it focuses all your school's fundraising efforts on raising money for our programmes of work such as Child Protection and Safety, Goelama, Youth for Change, Sport for Good as well as our latest project which is to build a dedicated children's hospital, the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital.

How you do that is up to you, there's no set formula. You could opt to hold a Charity Day every half term, with different activities each time like dress-down days, bake sales or school discos.

Or you could concentrate all your main fundraising push into one week by putting on a large number of different events, for example talent shows, auctions, quizzes, or sponsored walks.
