news / Barclays Art Exhibition and Fundraising Day
On the day, canteens at eight Barclays sites in Canary Wharf, Northampton, Kirkby, Radbroke Hall, Wavertree, Leeds and Westwood made some special additions to their regular menus. 10% of profits from these dishes were donated to the charity. Dishes included bobotie and pumpkin cheesecake - bringing some South African flavour to the UK!
On the evening, there was a spectacular art exhibition hosted by artist, Barclaycard Chief Financial Officer and long-term supporter of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund - Mr Nayan Kisnadwala. Titled Meditations and Visualisations, the exhibition shared 36 unique, inspiring and colourful works by Nayan with over 100 guests in attendance. All the paintings, which convey and share positive energy, were on sale with 100% of profits donated to the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.
Guests, including South African Deputy High Commissioner Bongiwe Qwabe, were welcomed by Mark Merson, Deputy Group Finance Director of Barclays and listened to speeches from Nayan, Kathi Scott, Executive Director of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund UK and Saldys Sheriff Africa Forum member and Director, Regional Chief Operating Officer Africa at Barclays. Nelson Mandela Children's Fund Ambassador and singer/songwriter Rene Byrd, captured guests with some festive music and Barclays' own Samuel Cole took to the stage to perform some of his powerful poetry. Guests were also able to take part in the raffle, which thanks to a number of generous sponsors, included designer bags, theatre and healthcare experiences, premiership football tickets and a piece of Nayan's art as prizes.
Kathi Scott of Nelson Mandela Children's Fund UK said "We are so grateful to Barclays and the dedicated and passionate volunteers in the Africa Forum for arranging this very special event. Thanks to their hard work it has been a wonderful day, with much-needed funds raised towards the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital. I hope that this is the beginning of a long and happy partnership. Thank you once again to our marvellous host and talented artist Nayan Kisnadwala for raising such a fantastic amount for the charity with his beautiful paintings."
