9th Jun 2016
The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund UK was delighted to be the beneficiary of a truly amazing Charity Premiere of 'Despite the Falling Snow' at The May Fair Hotel, London on Wednesday 23 March. 200 guests enjoyed the champagne drinks reception before making their way into the hotel's own cinema for the screening of the film.

Moving between the political elite of Cold War Moscow 1960, the post-Soviet Moscow of 1992, DESPITE THE FALLING SNOW is a story of passion, betrayal, political conflict and extraordinary sacrifice - and the haunting mystery of a woman caught between love and duty. New York 1992 - for over 30 years successful New York businessman Alexander Ivanov (CHARLES DANCE) has been haunted by the disappearance of his beloved wife, Katya (REBECCA FERGUSON), following his defection from the U.S.S.R. in 1961. Now he may finally discover the truth. His niece Lauren (REBECCA FERGUSON), a talented young artist, is travelling to Moscow for an exhibition that includes her work. But she is also on a quest - the loss of her Aunt Katya still casts a long shadow and Lauren, despite her uncle's concerns, wants to discover the truth....

During the end credits Ella Henderson performed the title track of the film 'NOW THAT YOU LOVE ME AGAIN'. Following Ella's performance there was a lively Q & A session led by Tania Bryer with Writer/Director Shamim Sarif and Producer Hanan Kattan.

The evening continued at the Danziger room with a delicious 3 course dinner, live performances by the talented Sinitta, Miquel Brown and Incognito as well as the lovely Lizzie Cundy acting as our MC. The evening ended with a hugely successful live auction.

Executive Director of NMCF UK, Kathi Scott, spoke to guests about the work of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund in South Africa, the 20th anniversary of NMCF UK as well as the importance of 2016 for us in South Africa, as we hope to open the doors of the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital in Johannesburg this coming December.

NMCF UK would like to say a huge 'Thank You' to writer/director Shamim Sarif, Producer Hanan Kattan and their Sarif-Kattan Foundation as well as Executive Producer Lisa Tchenguiz for their continuous support.

We also would like to thank the management and staff at The May Fair Hotel, and everyone involved with the Charity Premiere of 'Despite the Falling Snow' who made such a memorable night possible.
