Thabisile's Story
£5 per month could deliver support to a vulnerable child for a year...
Carolina was very ill with Aids related illnesses, and living in a very small and dilapidated house with her 5 daughters and 2 grandchildren.
Carolina's husband had died the previous year, and she received visits from NMCF funded volunteers who brought her food, simple medications and checked on the condition of her family.
During one visit Thabisile, Carolina's 4 year old granddaughter, was found cooking food over an open fire.
The volunteer was able to intervene by helping the family with food parcels and to identify other safer ways of accessing food that would not put the small child in further danger
This sympathetic concern and practical response show the importance of the visiting service in both caring for the sick and providing a safety net for vulnerable young children.
