Family support

We went with a volunteer called Sheila to visit a family that is receiving support.

It has grown rapidly -- Neliswe had 7 of her own children and is now caring for her deceased sister's 5 children.

The volunteers have supported the family in obtaining birth certificates for all the children so that foster care grants can be accessed.

Neliswe's husband is working, but the family have still needed to receive some food packages and have also been given seeds to plant so that they can begin to cultivate their own food.

This is one of 60 families that Sheila visits on a regular basis, often walking for miles in one day to reach them. But like her fellow volunteers she is cheerful and motivated, and told us that she was pleased to be giving something back to her community.

She showed remarkable maturity for her age -- only 24.
